Who, What and Where
The idea for a Country festival has been floating around for a few years but has never quite come to fruition…until now. The coronavirus pandemic lockdown provided the opportunity for a brand-new event to be organised in Carlisle. After a few frantic months of organisation during Covid19 lockdown the Carlisle Country Music Festival finally became a reality.
Over a weekend in May an impressive collection of the very best Country acts in the UK will come together for the first Carlisle Country Music Festival. If one good thing is to come out of the pandemic this could be it!
The venue for this, the first Carlisle Country Music Festival, is the impressive Edwardian styled Crown & Mitre Hotel, situated in the historic quarter of the city. The hotel is used to hosting such events, it is also the home to the city’s highly respected Blues/Rock Festival. The new festival will take over the hotel and make all of its 90 rooms available at discounted room rates for exclusive Package Deals.
The whole event, in this the first year, will be held indoors and will focus around one main stage, a purpose-built construction within the magnificent hotel ballroom, perfectly suitable, not only for the high-calibre of the acts which will be performing over the weekend but also for the viewing audience.
This new festival will be a special experience for an audience who will be sure to enjoy a supercharged atmosphere in an up close and intimate setting.
Carlisle isn’t known for being a stronghold of country music but this event could change that, it may well bring the City in line with much of the rest of the UK already enjoying the groundswell of Country popularity.
Geographically the historic city is an ideal location for the event, it is central to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Stranraer and York, serviced by the West Coast rail line and the M6, both of which run through the city.
The new Carlisle event is an entirely independent enterprise with no connection to the City or Arts councils. The entire financial risk will be borne by the Promoter and the plan is for it will be totally self-financing. Funding or sponsorship would be more than welcome to enable the new event to prosper and grow in future years… sponsorship details coming soon.
The Venue – The Crown & Mitre Hotel
The Crown and Mitre Hotel, located in the historical centre of Carlisle, offers the perfect mix of Edwardian grandeur, beautiful original features including a real log fire and elegant sweeping staircase plus all the modern comforts of home to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere while the elegant Crown & Mitre Hotel ballroom transforms into a fantastic live music venue.
The hotel also has leisure facilities with a swimming pool and Jacuzzi.
This fantastic indoor event will provide the perfect opportunity to take in historic Carlisle. The Festival is situated in the historic centre of the city, very close to the Cathedral, Castle and Railway Station. The train is a great option for travelling to Carlisle with the station only being a few minutes walk from the venue.
